Timber Review by "The Authors Life"

I didn’t expect a simple Easter story to hit me right in the feelings, but this one actually did. I picked up Journey of Timber: The Easter Bunny’s Little Brother last night to read “just a few pages” with my niece, and we ended up finishing the whole thing in one go. The story follows Timber and his brother Everest as they work together to bring something magical to life, and what stood out to me most was how grounded the message felt. It’s not just about Easterm, it’s about creativity, teamwork, and doing something kind without needing recognition.

There were a couple of moments where Timber doubts himself, and I liked how that was handled. It didn’t feel overly preachy or forced, just honest in a way kids can understand. My niece actually paused at one point to say, “He’s like me when I mess up,” which kind of says it all. The illustrations are also really warm and inviting, colorful without being overwhelming, and they helped keep her engaged the whole time.

I also appreciated the extra content at the end. The study guide and coloring pages feel like a nice bonus rather than filler, especially if you’re using this in a classroom or for more structured reading time.

I’d definitely recommend this to parents, teachers, or anyone looking for a meaningful, cozy read for younger kids, especially around springtime.

Journey of a Yorki-Poo is a heartfelt children’s story that follows a small puppy as he navigates the uncertainty of leaving the comfort of his mother and siblings and adjusting to a completely new home. Told through the puppy’s perspective, the story gently captures emotions of fear, confusion, and belonging in a way that feels meaningful and relatable for young readers.

Inspired by the author’s real dog, Wilson Curtis, the book carries a warm emotional depth that shines throughout the puppy’s journey. The bright and expressive illustrations beautifully bring the story to life, making it both engaging and easy for children to follow.

A touching and meaningful read for families and anyone who understands the special bond between people and their pets.

Author William Grothe

I was born in a small rural township in northeastern Nebraska called Bloomfield. No matter how old I grow or where life takes me, Bloomfield will always feel like home. In 1956, when I was six years old, our family moved to California. I was the youngest of six children, with five older sisters and no brothers.

California became my new home, and it’s where I spent most of my life. From 1968 to 1972, I served in the military. Shortly thereafter, I experienced what would become the greatest blessing of my life – I met my future wife, Rosie. We shared 42 wonderful years together.

After Rosie passed away, I moved from California to Tennessee to be closer to my son and grandson. Accompanying me on that journey was my last live-in connection to her, our beloved dog, Wilson Curtis. Wilson Curtis later became the inspiration for my first children’s book.

Now, in the winter of my life, I find joy in writing. It keeps my mind active and gives me comfort knowing I’ll leave something meaningful behind.
